YOUNG people in Swindon and Wiltshire will have help preparing for the world of work from an employer that has just joined the county’s careers hub.

Capita Workforce Management Solutions has partnered with the Careers and Enterprise Company and signed up to become a Cornerstone Employer in the Swindon and Wiltshire Careers Hub. The company will invest time and resources to support local schools and colleges with their careers education.

Operations director Daniel Busson said: “We are firm believers in giving all young people the best possible start to their careers, and by being a Cornerstone Employer, we can not only ensure we are assisting local institutions but also encouraging and supporting our fellow businesses in the area to become part of the Swindon & Wiltshire Careers Hub. We look forward to supporting the next generation of employees for many years to come.”

Young people who have regular, meaningful interactions with employers while at school are less likely to be NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training) when they leave school. Capita WFM will work closely with the Careers and Enterprise Company, Swindon Borough Council, Wiltshire Council and the Swindon and Wiltshire Enterprise Adviser Network, a network of volunteers from the world of business who are each matched to a local school to support their careers activity.

Together they will ensure that all young people across the region have access to regular, meaningful engagement with employers and gain the vital experiences of the workplace they need to help them make informed choices about their futures.

Careers and Enterprise Company CEO Claudia Harris said: “We are delighted that Capita Workforce Management Solutions has decided to become a Cornerstone Employer in Swindon and Wiltshire Careers Hub. All young people deserve great careers education, to inspire them, support their aspirations and prepare them for the fast-changing world of work.”

Swindon and Wiltshire LEP director Paddy Bradley said: “Enabling businesses to have an appropriately skilled and competitive workforce to support growth, innovation and creativity remains an investment priority for the Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership. The Swindon & Wiltshire Cornerstone Employer Group will build on the good work that is already happening between schools and employers so that together we provide the workforce and skills needed now and in the future for strong economic growth.”
