This ordinary terraced family home in Old Town could soon be home to up to 10 people.

The five bedroom house in Bath Road is the subject of a planning application to convert the main building into a student-style house of multiple occupation, with nine bedrooms with the garage at the back of the property also converted into a bedroom.

But the man behind the plan, Scott Kirby, says he is hoping to attract young professionals to be tenants rather than students.

Mr Kirby, who manages the apartments in the house next door at number 76, does not own the house yet, he said: "The idea is to get the planning permission and then buy the property. Nothing has been signed yet though."

If it all goes through, the basement of the property would house the kitchen and communal dining room as well as one bedroom. Another three bedrooms would be constructed on the ground and first floors and two on the second floor.

Mr Kirby said: "It will be done very nicely, with a good kitchen and dining room, and all the rooms will have ensuite toilets and shower rooms.

"The ideal tenant would be young professionals working in the town centre or perhaps people who work here who need a base in Swindon when they're here."

While there is parking for at least two cars behind the garage, Mr Kirby's application describes the scheme as "a car-free development". with secure bicycle storage to be built in the ground floor of the garage.

The plans are available on swindon.gov.uk using reference S/19/0743, and comments should be made by Saturday June 8.
