A VAN driver damaged several parked vehicles in Swindon town centre before fleeing the scene on foot.

A Vauxhall Vivaro van drove along Gladstone Street at around 6.30pm on Thursday and struck a number of cars which were parked along the pavement.

The driver tried to speed off after the prang but local residents stopped him, so he got out of the van.

He then ran away and managed to evade Wiltshire Police officers who arrived on the street shortly afterwards and carried out searches of the area.

Further enquiries established that the van had been stolen from the Essex area last year. The vehicle has been recovered.

Police are appealing for the public’s help in identifying a man they would like to speak to in relation to this criminal damage.

Anyone who recognises the man pictured or has any other information about the incident should call Wiltshire Police on 101.

Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
