VISUALLY-impaired people in Swindon can get their hands on free adapted gadgets aiming to make their lives easier and better.

British Wireless for the Blind Fund is launching its Reaching Out campaign in the town to increase awareness of the range of equipment and accompanying support services that are accessible for blind or partially sighted people.

The charity provides the equipment free to those who meet its criteria.

This includes digital radios, internet radio, talking tablets, memory stick players and more.

Regional development manager Sophie Wheldon said: “Easy-to-use gadgets are vital to someone who cannot see – they provide news, information and entertainment but also, more importantly, companionship and a friendly voice. It’s much more than just a radio.

“Our equipment is designed so that a person with sight loss can use them easily and independently. All equipment is delivered by one of our support volunteers who sets it all up and provides help and advice to using it.”
