WORLD War Two meant enormous changes in the lives of ordinary people.
Nevertheless, as these images from the early summer of 1942 show, there was a sense that making the best of things was vital.
Nobody could go to a beach, as the beaches were mined and strewn with barbed wire and tank traps, but thousands of Swindon people went to Coate Water instead.
Others preferred to listen to public concerts at the Town Gardens.
The week also saw town clerk David Murray John honoured by the King.
