New protection against fires has been installed in most of Swindon's residential tower blocks following the Grenfell Tower disaster.

Councillors on Swindon Borough Council's adults health, care and housing scrutiny committee will be updated with a report on the authority's housing department's work on preventative and safety measures.

They will learn that new fire foors, additional smoke detectors and intumescent grills, which prevent hot and dangerous gases being circulated in case of fire have been installed in the David Murray John Tower.

In the council's six 10 storey blocks, additional internal fire doors have been fitted, a fire suppression system is being installed at George Hall Court sheltered housing)and escape and emergency lighting has been fitted to Swindon's 28 medium rise apartment blocks.
