MORE than 350 people got their running shoes and took part in a 5K fun run to raise money for 15-year-old Kale Turner from Trowbridge who is battling with a brain tumour.

A total of more than £4250 was raised for Kale who's family is raising money for a new home which can be adapted to suit Kale's needs, after they were told their current home in Dursley Road was not suitable for adaption.

Kale was admitted to Bristol Children’s Hospital after being diagnosed last September.

However he has since suffered two bleeds on the brain which left him with brain damage and the need to use a wheelchair as well as round the clock care.

Kale's mum Jane Turner said she has been overwhelmed by the amount of support they have received.

She said: "It went really well on Saturday, we were all blown away by the amount of people that came to support us and I think there is still some sponsership to come through but we are so pleased with the amount we raised.

"It very much felt like the whole community had come out to support us, it was just amazing.

"Kale is stable, although he has had a bit of a chest infection over the past few weeks but he is over the worst of it now.

"We are still very early days with everything really and just trying to find that balance, but slowly and steadily we will get there."

So far Jane and her family have raised around £20,000 towards their new home from several fundraisers over the past few months.

The family hope to sell their current home and buy a bungalow to allow Kale to have access to the whole house and be cared for at home.
