THIS picture is from a file in the Adver’s archives marked simply: “Face of Swindon.”
We can date it to around August of 1956 thanks to another image in the file which shows a news stand festooned with magazines whose covers can be clearly seen.
The likely location for this fashion parade of more than 60 years ago is McIlroys, although we welcome correction from any Rewind reader who knows otherwise.
Sadly, the posters at the back are indecipherable
It was common for department stores to organise exhibitions of the latest fashions, with staff volunteering - or perhaps being volunteered - to take a turn on the catwalk.
