PUZZLED motorists questioned why scores of cameras had been put up around Swindon town centre.
The cameras appeared almost overnight across the town centre, stretching from Transfer Bridges to Old Town, including on the way in to council car parks like that on Spring Gardens.
Swindon Borough Council said the 168 cameras were being used to monitor traffic flow with a view to improve the town’s roads.
Some of the cameras would be removed after the survey ends on Saturday, others will be removed on Sunday and a further eight will remain in place for at least another 10 days.
On Facebook, Swindon Borough Council said: "You may have seen strange little cameras popping up across the town centre in the last few days.
“They are simply there to see how traffic currently moves around the town which will help us to improve Swindon’s roads in the future.”
