A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an older man was hit by a car on the A303 last week died overnight.

The 23-year-old Watford man, arrested this morning in Hertfordshire, remains in custody at Gablecross police station.

The arrest follows the death of a man, 63, involved in the crash on the A303 eastbound near Amesbury at around 4.50pm on Friday. He was airlifted to hospital but died in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The driver of the car failed to stop at the scene.

Appealing to anyone who saw the crash to come forward, Det Supt Julie Mackay said: "We would like to speak anyone who may have seen this collision on Friday.

"This is a very busy road and I believe there would have been a number of drivers and road users who would have seen this incident.

"Also, if you have any dash-cam footage of this please come forward."
