THEY'RE some of the best-kept villages in Wiltshire, and now they will go on to fight for the county title.

The first round of this year’s CPRE Wiltshire and The Hills Group Best Kept Village competition is now complete, with Ashton Keynes coming out on top in the North Wiltshire and Swindon category.

It topped the large village section, with Box coming second. Blunsdon was third and Brinkworth fourth.

In the medium-sized village category, Great Somerford took the top spot with Oaksey and Dauntsey coming in second and third.

And in the small villages category, Upper and Lower Seagry won, while Marston Meysey finished second.

Hankerton was third and Clyffe Pypard, near Royal Wootton Bassett, fourth.

All the group-winning villages will receive a certificate and then go on to be judged against similar sized villages in other districts in July.

The competition judges chose the winners based on tidiness, cleanliness, presentation and how much of a village community spirit each displayed.

The results of the second round will be announced in August with the winner of each category having a plaque presentation ceremony on September 15.

The competition is sponsored by the Swindon-based Hills Group along with Princeton Homes and Haine and Smith Opticians.
