TALENT has shone through at Dorcan Technology College.

The Dorcan's Got Talent show sold out on Thursday evening, as pupils entertained their peers and parents with breakdance moves.

Twelve acts were picked from 24 to entertain the audience, who then chose the best performance.

Voters judged a dance group from Year 11 as the best act to rival any seen on Britain's Got Talent, the X-Factor or other television shows.

The dancers, who wowed the audience with their hip-hop skills, will perform again in front of fellow pupils at assembly, along with the judges' choice.

Three judges gave the performers feedback and Year 9 pupil Elliott Watling emerged as their choice for singing Last Request.

"He was absolutely brilliant," said teacher Mel Shepherd.

"He captured the emotion of the song and the audience were spellbound."

The Grease Mega Mix, solo tap, harp playing and free- style dance were all on the programme.

Mrs Shepherd said she wanted to adopt a Simon Cowell persona as seen on the X-Factor but found it impossible.

"I was so surprised to see the talent in the school," she said.

"I couldn't fault them."

One of the highlights included five male teachers dressed up doing the YMCA.

Each teacher delivered the Village People number dressed as a different character, including an Indian, police officer, sailor and builder.

"The show was phenomenal," said organiser Kelly Kirby.

"It was completely sold out and we had to turn 100 people away.

"We had so many students doing the splits on the stage last night. The children are getting so good at dancing.

"We had 12 really good performances - it is really good to promote what the school is doing."
