FIRE crews had to cut through the doors at an industrial unit to get to a blaze that had started there.
Three fire engines from Hyndburn and Great Harwood were called to Barnmeadow Lane in Great Harwood at 9.45am on Wednesday.
Nobody was injured during the incident at the engineering firm.
A worker nearby said: “It was half past nine in the morning when we heard sirens.
“There was thick smoke everywhere, and three fire engines on the scene.
“They couldn’t get in, so they had to cut through the doors.
“It was over in five minutes, but they stayed until an hour later to damp down the area, when the owner came to clear out his belongings.
“Luckily the fire was confined in one room, so he will still be able to work there.”
Another resident added: “I called by and spoke with the fire service to check as it’s directly adjacent to a friend’s premises, but once they confirmed no one was hurt and it was in hand I left them to do their job.”
A spokesman for the fire service, said: “The fire involved a two-storey industrial unit approximately 20m x 20m.
“The fire was extinguished using six breathing apparatus, two hose reels and two positive ventilation fans. No injuries were reported.
"The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
