Swindon Borough Council has made it through to the next stage of assessment regarding a bid for funding.
An application for £25m was made to the governments future high streets fund.
Swindon's plans were amongst 300 other plans from across the country to ask for part of the £675m funding available.
The new designs for the Fleming Way bus station include the removal of the underpass and improved pedestrian and cycle routes.
The council will now recieve up to £150,000 to complete the business case and details to make the bid 'shovel ready' so that work can start in 2020.
The improvements will include a green spine, new public space and dramatically improved pedestrian and cycle routes being created in the town centre with the current underpass at Fleming Way being removed. pic.twitter.com/y37GWYvi5T
