Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is calling on residents to become ‘hedgehog heroes’ by recording their sightings of the prickly creatures.

The trust has launched the Hedgehog Citizen Science Campaign, designed to increase data on the location and number of hedgehogs across the county.

Data collected will be used to generate a report on the health of the county’s hedgehog populations and provide recommendations for local councils.

Once people join the campaign they will be sent regular updates and advice to help record sightings and make their garden hedgehog friendly.

The trust is also encouraging people to keep photo diaries, video blogs and written updates to be shared throughout the community.

Dr Gary Mantle, chief executive of Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, said: “By joining the campaign, the people of Wiltshire can play a vital role in saving the country’s hedgehogs.”
