BURGLARS were arrested following a police chase across Wiltshire early this morning.

Wiltshire police received a call from a member of the public reporting an alarm sounding at the Burbage Garage at approximately 5:20am.

A Ford Mondeo had been seen driving off from the scene. A description of the vehicle was given to officers and it was spotted travelling through Everleigh.

An officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but it continued at excess speed and on the wrong side of the road at times.

The vehicle then crashed at the junction of the A342 and A338.

Three occupants. Aged 24,29 and 35 – all from the London area, fled the scene and ran in direction of Ludgershall. A bag containing a large quantity of cigarettes was found in the vehicle.

They were located, detained and arrested before being taken to hospital for welfare checks and then taken to custody in Melskam.

Superintendent Phil Staynings said: “This was excellent example of how the public and officers can work together to keep our community safe.

“I’d like to thank the member of the public who initially alerted us to the incident at the petrol station which enabled us to act quickly and arrest three people.

“I hope this sends a reassuring message to the public that we take reports of this nature seriously and the importance of reporting suspicious activity or crimes that are in progress via 999 so we can act immediately.”
