Women in Swindon suffer more than men with mental health difficulties, members of the borough’s health and wellbeing board will be told.
The report to the board which will be made tomorrow says that one in five women in the borough almost across the board, suffer from ‘common mental disorders’ such as mild to moderate depression, and various forms of anxiety. That is significantly more than the 13.2 per cent of men in the town similarly affected.
Nearly 10 per cent of women suffer from a CMD severe enough to need an intervention, compared with 6.4 per cent of men.
The only category of mental health in which men do worse than women is bipolar disorder, where 2.1 per cent of men are estimated to suffer form the condition, compared to 1.8 per cent of women.
The board meets at 2pm at the civic offices.
