SWINDON Lions are holding a quiz this Saturday to raise money for the club's Swindon Welfare Appeal.

On Saturday July 13 at Christ Church Community Centre Cricklade Street Old Town, a charity quiz will take place which is open to everyone.

Starting at 7.30pm, teams with a maximum of six participants or individuals will have the chance to battle it out between themselves to become the winner.

Tickets cost of £8 per person, and included in the price is a Fish and Chip Supper.

There will also be a raffle.

All the proceeds go to support the work Swindon Lions do around the community.

The Lions aim to help disadvantaged people in the community by raising funds for local charities and good causes.

The 17-strong club has been in Swindon for 55 years and during this time has raised over £400,000 for local good causes.

Maurice Watson, president of the Swindon Lions said: "We are getting more and more requests from various organisations to help individuals and families who find themselves in unfortunate circumstances, and need finance to purchase furniture, clothes for children, bedding etc but due to their current situation ie. single parent, rehoused, they cannot purchase theses."

He added: "At one meeting last month we gave, through organisations, to 3 needy appeals totalling £1000.

"We would like to do more and more is needed," he added.
