Plans to ease the movement of traffic through and around the town centre were approved by Swindon Borough Council's cabinet, and will now go to public consulting
The Town Movement Strategy has the aims of making its simpler for traffic to get around the central area, with one proposals a loop of two way streets replacing part of the one way system.
There should also be improved connectivity for cycling routes and "walkable streets" and the Fleming Way Bus boulevard also plays an important role in the scheme.
Labour councillor for Mannington and Western Jim Robbins raised the issue of traffic in Rodbourne, caused in general, by visitors to the outlet village and Steam museum.
Cabinet member for transport and the environment Maureen Penny said that was being dealt with separately, as it was outside the town centre, in order to find a solution sooner.
