POLICE closed a road in the town centre after a short pursuit ended in a car crash.
Officers noticed a black Mercedes driving too fast along Princes Street and tried to get the driver to slow down.
The car they chased crashed into a lamppost on Holbrook Way. The 27-year-old driver suffered a minor facial injury.
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “At around 9.15pm yesterday, a police officer on patrol in a marked car was driving along Princes Street, Swindon, when he saw a vehicle being driven at excessive speed.
“He attempted to stop the car, but the driver failed to stop and a short pursuit occurred.
“The car, a black Mercedes, then collided with a lamppost on Holbrook Way.
“The driver had a minor facial injury but did not require medical treatment. Nobody else was injured.
“The driver, a 27-year-old local man, will be invited in for police interview at a later date, and our enquiries are ongoing.”
