POLICE praised an "eagle-eyed" member of the public for potentially preventing thefts near Bridgemead.
Officers arrested a man from the area on suspicion of going equipped to steal after they responded to a call from a concerned citizen.
The caller rang 999 at around 2.30am on Saturday to alert police to a man acting suspiciously around bicycles in Saltash Road.
When police arrived at the scene, they found a man from the area who matched the description given by the caller and was carrying tools.
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "An eagle eyed member of the public appears to have prevented some thefts.
"We have a sneaking suspicion that some of the items our man was in possession of might be stolen. If you live in the area of Saltash Road and recognise any of the items then please call us on 101.
"Your call won’t just get you your property back, it might give us the evidence to prosecute our night time wanderer for theft."
