A CHESTER man has been charged with causing unnecessary suffering to an animal following an incident in a canal boat.

Colin Edwards, 33, of Watergate Street, will appear at Chester Magistrates Court on Friday, August 2.

It comes after armed police responded to reports that a dog had been stabbed near Frodsham Court at around 8.05pm on Sunday (July 15).

However, police and the RSPCA have subsequently clarified that the animal was not stabbed. It is instead alleged that the dog had an ulcer which burst as it had been left untreated.
