STARBUCKS in the town centre will close its doors today.

News that the coffee chain's outlet in The Brunel shopping centre is to shut emerged last month.

While managers at the branch were not prepared to comment to the Adver, staff said today would be its final day.

The Starbucks announcement follows news that five Arcadia-owned fashion stores, as well as Argos, will be closing in Swindon town centre.

Swindon mayor, Kevin Parry, cut the ribbon of the new Starbucks drive-thru near Great Western Way last month.

The manager there, Magda Sobczak, 30, said of those affected by the town centre closure: “We don’t want people to go without jobs, the idea is that they come here.”
