A SECONDARY school is taking 'effective action' to improve, the education watchdog has said.

Gosford Hill School in Kidlington was rated 'requires improvement' in February last year, and has now had a check-up inspection.

A new Ofsted report released last week said: "Your team has a clear vision of what needs to be done to improve outcomes for pupils.

"You have not shied away from making difficult leadership decisions when required."

An inspector visited the school in late June to monitor its progress since its last inspection.

The new report does not change the 900-pupil school's rating, but does commend leaders, staff and governors for addressing the issues identified last year.

These were mainly inconsistency of teaching and the pace of improvements after the Oxford Road school was also rated 'requires improvement' by the watchdog in 2016.

The new report said: "Visits to lessons indicated a calm, purposeful atmosphere. Relationships between pupils and teachers are positive."

Last year Gosford Hill began consultation to join the River Learning Trust, which already runs about 20 schools.

Ofsted said in its new report: "The River Learning Trust has provided regular support and has a very good understanding of the school’s strengths and weaknesses."
