Swindon libraries were handing out free books over the weekend.

A cart located at the Orbital Shopping centre on Saturday during Justin Tomlinson’s Summer Activities Day, was giving away the books in a bid to get more children into reading.

The give-away comes just as the summer holidays start with many youngsters finding themselves with a lot of spare time.

As well as the free books, this year’s Summer Reading Challenge has started with a 'space chase' being this year’s theme.

Mr Tomlinson, MP for North Swindon said: “I hope parents, grandparents and carers in North Swindon will take their children to the library over the summer to sign up for the Summer Reading Challenge.

“It’s free, inclusive and, most importantly, makes reading fun.”
