SWINDON MPs urged parliament to agree on a Brexit deal before the country crashes out of the EU.

North Swindon MP Justin Tomlinson said: "There is a very clear message from the public that they are frustrated and angry that politicians have been unable and unwilling to break the deadlock.

“I hope that with the new prime minister, there can be a fresh start and MPs with strong views on both sides of the debate can get round the table and find a way of reaching a compromise so that we can move forward.

“I will continue to support pragmatic and sensible ways forward. A deal with sensible transition agreements will make our exit smoother for businesses on all sides. Brexit is an opportunity to embrace the growing global economy. Everyone remains committed to delivering Brexit and making it a success.”

South Swindon MP Robert Buckland said: "I want us to leave the EU on October 31. The EU chose that date, so let's work to it.

"We have to work to achieve a deal and parliament has to help in that by facilitating the decision made in the referendum because there is increasing exasperation.

"A crash-out Brexit would not be good for our economy, our union or our security so the new PM must avoid it. We need to look at the shape of what a deal could look like and be acceptable to Europe.

"Theresa May's deal could not pass parliament, it's failed three times, so we have to look beyond that to see what can be agreed in the short space of time we have left.

"Businesses I spoke to say they want this uncertainty to end. People who voted remain say we need to get on with it because that will allow us to move, adapt, plan and enter a new phase."
