AN AMBITIOUS campaign to promote Swindon's thriving tech businesses needs a project co-ordinator.

TechSwindon will bring together the town's digi-tech cluster of businesses through a series of themed events which culminate in a two-day summit in 2020. The aim is to promote the town’s innovative tech companies while also attracting additional talent and inward investment.

Switch On To Swindon launched the campaign and is recruiting a project co-ordinator to manage the scheme.

SOTS chair Jenny Groves said: “The area has over 28,000 tech and digitally linked businesses, and Swindon has the UK’s third most productive tech sector. It was recently awarded funding for the Institute of Technology. This is a strong and growing industry which underpins many of Swindon’s successful companies in finance, manufacturing and pharmaceuticals.”

The team is looking for someone with proven experience, tech industry knowledge and a passion for Swindon’s business growth to galvanise support from big names like Catalent, Intel and Zurich as well as build strong connections with micro-businesses and small-to-medium businesses.

Nationwide Building Society confirmed its support and sponsorship of the TechSwindon campaign in the launch event at its Pipers Way HQ in June. The company just announced its latest Swindon project to build Ramsbury House with 700 digital staff later this year.

The new co-ordinator will work with Appsbroker, one of Swindon’s fastest growing tech companies, to help position the campaign to attract talent to the town.

CEO Mike Connor said: “We are always recruiting. We currently have 170 staff but we expect to grow to 1,000 in the next five years.

“We are looking for software engineers and data specialists. Building the awareness of Swindon’s tech companies has to be the right approach to attracting, developing and retaining talent in Swindon.”

The contract will be funded by business contributions, will be hosted by Swindon Borough Council, and is suitable for a self-employed individual or company. Applications must be received before 4pm on July 25.
