GLOBAL news was dominated by Apollo 11’s journey home this week in 1969, but the Adver still found space for plenty of local news.
Smart new office buildings were springing up all over the centre of Swindon, for example, even though potential tenants seemed a little thin on the ground.
In Old Town, a road widening scheme levelled buildings and provided a view of the Locarno not seen in many years.
Inevitably, events in space made their mark, notably in a cheery editorial cartoon offering an up-to-the-minute slant on a favourite old Wiltshire legend.
