Curry lovers turned out in force to help two charities in Swindon.

Mayor Kevin Parry hosted a buffet curry evening and quiz at the Lalbagh restaurant in Rodbourne which raised £885.

The money will be shared between his two nominated Swindon charities, CALM (Cancer and Leukaemia Movement) and the Swindon and North Wiltshire Deaf Children’s Society.

Mayoress Barbara Parry, also a borough councillor, said: “The event was a great success, we raised a staggering £885 for the mayor’s charities and on top of that, not only did councillor Abdul Amin very kindly host the event, he has also pledged to donate an additional £100 to the charities.

“A huge thank-you to all who attended, all who donated items for the raffle and auction, to Richard Crowley from CALM for running the auction and for Colin and Jaki Lovell for being our excellent quizmasters. It was a great evening with good company, good food and lots of fun.”

The next event on behalf of the good causes will be a breakfast at the Thistle Express hotel in Fleming Way at 9am-11am on Thursday, August 8.

Tickets are priced at £7 and £4 for under-15s.
