RUNNERS are wanted to join Wiltshire Air Ambulance's 30th birthday celebrations at next year's Bath Half Marathon.

The life-saving charity is encouraging people to book a place in the race to help keep its helicopters flying.

WAA events co-ordinator Kenresa Stratford said: "The Bath Half Marathon is always a popular event in our calendar and it’s extra special in 2020 given that it falls on the day of our 30th birthday. We’ll have plenty planned to celebrate the occasion and we’re hoping to have a bumper number of runners on the start line donning the yellow and green of our charity.”

It costs £3.75 million a year to keep the air ambulance operational but receives no govermnent funding or lottery grants so events like this are vitally important and have provided £110,000 over the last five years.

The WAA began by sharing a helicopter full-time with Wiltshire Police from March 1990, then became a stand-alone charity in 2015.

Sign up to the event before August 31 to get a 10 per cent discount. Entry will cost £30 and runners must raise £200 each.
