Outraged Highworth residents crowdfunded more than £4,000 in May to pay for the costs of a non-partisan petition to be sent to the High Court where they hoped a judge would allow a recount to be carried out.
Solicitors then suggested a quicker method of having the recount at Swindon County Court and then sending the results to the High Court for approval.
While this was being arranged, Highworth councillors took their seats and held meetings as usual while knowing there was a good chance that not everyone on the town council should have been elected.
It is hoped that Swindon Borough Council will cover the costs of the Democracy for Highworth campaign once the corrected results are made official.
