Members of Swindon's Borough Council's planning committee have been recommended to approve the authority's own plan to build 149 affordable flats and houses on Queen's Drive.
The plan to build the 49 houses and 100 apartments on the site of the now demolished George Gay Gardens sheltered housing units will come to the committee for debate and a decision next Tuesday.
Despite objections from South Swindon Parish Council and ward councillor Bazil Solomon, officers at Euclid Street are in favour of the plan. The report to the committee says: "This development will deliver a net 63 additional residential dwellings, which will make a significant contribution to Swindon's housing supply.
"The design provides a significant improvement on the previous residential buildings, and whilst it may appear unspectacular, it is not unacceptable."
The committee meets at 6pm on Tuesday August 13 at the Civic Offices.
