POLICE have arrested a man on suspicion of arson after a car was set alight in the early hours of today.

Firefighters called in officers at 3.25am following the blaze in Ryan Close, Sparcells.

It is believed the fire, which damaged a Seat Ibiza, was started deliberately.

A local man in his 20s was arrested and is in custody at Gablecross Police Station for questioning.

Det Insp Helen Jacobs said: “While we don't believe this was a random attack, we would like to hear from anyone who was in the Sparcells area, in particular, Ryan Close, at around 3am this morning who may have seen or heard anyone acting suspiciously.

"We'd also like to hear from any residents who may have private CCTV or dash cams which may have captured any footage which could be useful to our investigation.
