Mayor Kevin Parry was invited to a charity breakfast to mark the second birthday of a Swindon hotel.

Thistle Express in Fleming Way invited the mayor’s two charities CALM (Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Movement) and Swindon & North Wiltshire Deaf Children’s Society.

Alongside the breakfast, a raffle was held with the event raising £187 for the two charities.

Cllr Parry said: “Thank you so much to the Thistle Express for hosting the mayor’s charity breakfast.

“Big thanks to everyone who came out and supported this event and well done to the lucky couple who won the London hotel stay and the bubbly.

“The mayoress and I wish them both a wonderful time in London.”

CALM chairman Richard Crowley said: “We’re delighted Thistle Express approached us and the mayor to host a charity breakfast.

“The mayor of Swindon has kindly chosen to support CALM and he’s already made a great start to his fundraising, including an abseil down the Jurys Inn.

“CALM is a small independent charity that helps families in Swindon and the surrounding area who have a child undergoing treatment for cancer.”

Secretary for Swindon & North Wiltshire Deaf Children’s Society Natasha Gallagher added: “The breakfast was a great success, and we are thrilled about the funds raised by this event.”
