Celebrations were aplenty at New College this morning as the majority of their students achieved their expected grades.

The overall pass rate at the college has increased from 97 pre cent in 2018 to a staggering 98 per cent this year.

With the highest number of A-level students in Swindon and Wiltshire, this year the college had 1,038 successful exam entries.

Alongside the overall pass rate, 27 of the subjects taught at the college has a pass rate of 100 per cent. These subjects included biology, chemistry, classical civilization, French and German.

One of the students who aced it was Katie Canfer who said: "I got A, A, B in economics, politics and Spanish. I think I’d like to take a gap year now but then hopefully I’ll go to Nottingham University the year after if they accept me.

“I really liked it when I visited and felt like I could see myself there.

“I absolutely loved college actually, I mean, it was stressful towards exams but I didn’t exactly have any worries. I just tried my best and tried not to binge watch anything.

“College were really supportive and I’ve had a really great time.

Katie, who is also in the band Subject X, added: “In the gap year I’d really like to work full time and give my band a chance. We’re looking for gigs.

“I’ll take some time to enjoy myself.”

Swindon Advertiser:

Out of the 98 per cent pass rate, 61 students at the college achieved at least three A*-B grades.

Carole Kitching, New College principal and CEO, said: "I'm very proud of all our students who continue to go from strength to strength.

"The very high pass rates and increasing numbers of high grades are a testament to their hard work and determination.

"This will stand them in very good stead as they move on to higher education, apprenticeships or employment.

"I would like to thank all my colleagues at New College who have worked so hard to support our students and to wish all the students who have recieved their results today every success for the future."
