TEENAGE dancer Darcey Goddard will fulfil her dream of dancing in Swan Lake.

The 15-year-old will take to the stage today in a production of Swan Lake in Cardiff.

She has been doing ballet since the age of two and has always wanted to dance in the timeless love story.

“I was over the moon. It’s an amazing opportunity that only selected people can do,” Darcey said.

“It is a ballet I have always wanted to perform in.”

Darcey, from Peatmoor, successfully auditioned to perform with the English Youth Ballet in its professional performances in the New Theatre today and tomorrow.

“I'm really nervous because the theatre is huge, bigger than anywhere I've performed before. But I'm excited as well,” she said.

“I feel privileged to be able to perform with the English Youth Ballet as it's such a well-known company around the country. It’s an amazing opportunity as it gives an insight to what dancing professionally is really like.”

Darcey, who attends the Estelle School of Dance in Swindon, will take part in one performance today and two tomorrow.

She will dance as part of the corps de ballet - the group of dancers who portray the flock swans around the lead character Odette.

“The choreography is challenging but they teach it to you in small parts and if you need help with anything they are happy to give it,” said Darcey

The cast rehearsed at Fitzalan High School in Cardiff for just 10 days before the production.

“Rehearsals have been tiring as it’s six hour days,” added Darcey.

“However the training you get is amazing and it’s so worth it .

“It is inspiring dancing with professionals as you can see how passionate they are about ballet,” she added.

Darcey hopes to study dance at college in September.
