INDIANS in Swindon gathered together to celebrate the country’s independence.
Around 500 people attended the 72nd anniversary event at the Swindon Hindu Temple and Cultural Centre in Darby Close.
The celebrations started with the hoisting of the Indian flag by chairman of the Swindon Hindu Temple Trust Pradeep Bhardwaj followed by the recitation of the national anthem.
In his speech, he said: “Not only do we take pride in India but also through our actions every day and our contributions to the society wherever we live, we will make India proud.
“Let us strive for a bright future of our two nations – India and UK.”
The event featured cultural performances including singing, dances and more.
About 45 children participated in the art competition.
The night ended with a three-course Indian meal which included traditional dishes.
