A MUM-OF-THREE has set up a group on social media to help vulnerable families in Swindon to enjoy cheap days out in the area.

Rosie Bedford, 28, has created a new group on Facebook called Days Out For Kids in Swindon, offering ideas for cheap or free days out alternatives for children in low-income families.

The group attracted more than 1,300 members in less than a week.

Rosie said: “This group is actually to help vulnerable families. What I am doing is that I find a place either free or very cheap for children and their families and people just seem to like it and it is going very well.

“It is something I always though about doing because I have got three children myself. I have always been looking for free events.

"I had my first child at 18, so it was very difficult. I think every family is always trying to look for thing to do with their children and not spend that much.”

The group focuses mainly on open spaces in Swindon or up to one-and-a-half hours from the town.

Families can post pictures or ideas on the group and tag their friends or family members in order to set up a day trip during the school holidays or at weekends.

Rosie, who works as a social worker, spends most of her days with vulnerable families and knows how important it is to support them.

She said: “My job is all about working with vulnerable families and I think this group benefits the lower-class families as well as the middle-class families.

“These are the places I have visited and I research quite a lot, I go on websites and go through different councils but it does take a lot of time and a lot of people don’t know about these places because they either haven’t got the time to research them or maybe they don’t have the capacity to go through lots of different websites to actually come across these pages.

“What I try to do is to show them that even local parks could be amazing. There are some places in or near Swindon that are completely free, they just don’t even know that they exist.”
