YSGOL Emrys ap Iwan have hosted their annual summer school.

The event is in its sixth year. Pupils from year six, seven, eight and nine took part in a week of sporting activities such as swimming, cricket, basketball, rounders and dodgeball amongst others.

Jon Blackford, leading the week, said: "Sport is a great tool for learners transitioning to secondary school to get to know one another. It gives learners the opportunity to meet other learners from different year groups and different primary schools, this gives them a friendly face when they make the transition to secondary school.

"As well as giving the learners a positive week of physical activity, through sport we also try to teach humility, empathy and resilience."

Lee Cummins, headteacher, said: "This is another great opportunity for learners to extend their learning beyond the classroom.

"Whether new learners or learners who are already with us it has been a great way for them to spend a week.

"They have learnt new skills and developed new friendships."

An open evening for the September 2020 intake is taking place on Thursday, September 26 starting at 6pm until 8pm.
