The Morrisons supermarket in the centre of Swindon may close.

The 113 staff at the store in Regent Circus have been told today that bosses at the chain are thinking about shutting up shop. The Adver understands this could happen in November.

An email, seen by the Adver, from Morrisons says: "I regret to inform you that the Swindon Regent Circus Morrisons store is under consideration for potential closure.

"Before taking this difficult step, we have looked extremely carefully at whether the store can be turned around but unfortunately, after a review of all the available options, we cannot see a solution at this stage.

"Our priority now is to support our colleagues, and a specially appointed team will be working closely with the store to undertake a comprehensive consultation process.

"We are grateful for the tireless work of our highly-valued colleagues within the community and their dedication to the business over the five years this store has been trading. This move is in no way a reflection of their efforts during that time."

The supermarket opened in late 2014 as one of the anchors of the Regent Circus regeneration project which followed the demolition on Swindon College.
