SLIMMER Sammi Lamb has won an award for her work helping other people lose weight.

The 31-year-old runs the Rodbourne Slimming World groups every week, and has been awarded Pearl status by the national organisation.

The accolade represents one of the highest levels of service in Slimming World and consequently means Swindon is home to one of the best Slimming World Consultants in the UK.

“I am delighted to have received the Pearl award,” Sammi said. “ I absolutely love my job and this is a wonderful award to receive.”

It is given to consultants who consistently have 50-75 or more members in their group over several months.

It also recognises those who provide exceptional service so that members prioritise the group and come back each week.

Sammi continued: “Pearls are something beautiful hidden inside an outer shell so it’s a wonderful metaphor for what we do at Slimming World.

“We help people to shed the misery of excess weight so that they can discover the real them inside and become the person that they always dreamed of being.

“It’s not just about looking different though, it’s about feeling happier, healthier and more confident too,” she added.

Sammi, who works as a full-time Slimming World Consultant started the group in January 2017.

“I was successful in loosing more than three stone in just over three months with Slimming World’s eating plan.

“This then made me realise how much I would love to help other people achieve their weightloss dreams,” added Sammi.

She said 63.7per cent of adults in Swindon are over weight, with many people also suffering corresponding weight-related health issues such as diabetes and heart problems as well as low self-esteem.

Members of Rodbourne Slimming World meet at Rodbourne Methodist Church every Monday at 5.30pm and 7.30pm, as well as every Tuesday morning at 9.30am.

Together the group has lost a combined total of 53 stone in July alone.

Paying tribute to her slimmers, Sammi said: “I’ll be sharing this award with our 100 plus members.

“They’re the ones who make the group the success it is, with their fabulous commitment, the wonderful support they give each other every week, and, above all, their impressive weight losses.”

“They make the group a fun, buzzy place to be and I can honestly say I always look forward to going to work.”

The award comes as Swimming World has announced a Golden Bus tour around the UK next month to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

There are now more than 13,000 weekly Slimming World groups across the UK, supporting 900,000 members through a network of 4,000 community-based Slimming World Consultants.

To celebrate, the Golden Anniversary Bus will be visiting different parts of the UK, including Swindon on Sunday September 15.

From 10am the Bus will be at Wharf Green where people will be able to watch live cookery demonstrations and enjoy free food tasters.

Other members of Slimming World will also be talking about how they have improved their health and got more active since losing weight.

“Struggling with being overweight affects so many of us and has an impact on our health and happiness,” continued Sammi.

“It’s never been more important for people to get support to make the changes needed to lead healthier lives for the good of the whole community.”

“Seeing that transformation in people is what I love most about my job and I’m passionate about helping and supporting my members to change their lives by losing weight,” she added.
