More pressing problems

It is hardly surprising to read that “more than 60 per cent of NHS trusts in the country, including the GWH, are not on course to meet the government’s carbon reduction targets” (SA, August 28).

This is yet another NHS target that will, almost certainly, be missed. Whilst protection of the environment is a worthy and important cause, I suggest that most NHS trusts have more pressing priorities relating to present-day patients.

Given the national shortage of professional, clinical staff, they have plenty of problems trying to treat today’s patients with life-threatening conditions. These, quite properly, must take priority over protecting the environment for future generations.

Prorogue Parliament?

Oh come on, It’s not the first time this has been done. It has happened loads of times and all of you were unaware of it!

It has been done by quite a few Prime Ministers but how many of your knew this? But now that Boris had done in an effort to preserve Democracy you are all up in arms.

Democracy was evident in 2016 when we had the referendum, and there were 17.4 million voted to leave the EU, a majority, small, but nonetheless a majority. Since then we have seen the biggest debacle of so called MPs trying their hardest to overturn a democratic Vote to Leave.

Was it democratic of these MPs to think they knew better than their constituents who voted to leave? Is that what democracy is all about? Being so stuck up and superior that you don’t have to listen to your constituents. Because their vote doesn’t really matter `cos you know better. Because you are an MP, and that’s the only thing that actually matters to you.

John Major, one of the weakest PMs we ever had did it. Now though because Boris has done it Major is going absolutely berserk. He voted against the Government and voted us in at Maastricht. Otherwise if he hadn’t this problem would never have arisen.

And this whole fiasco, which has shown just how useless most MPs are. Interested only in themselves. Now because we have a PM who is doing what he told us he was going to do. They and all the other idiots in the country are up in arms.

Do you think they are keeping us in for our own benefit? Think again they are looking after themselves yet again. Unless we leave now we will become a Vassal State to the EU. Told what to do and what we cannot do. We, all of the British Nation deserve more than this. Is this what we fought two world wars for?

Funny I thought it was for Freedom for everybody. Doesn’t seem like that now with this looming over us does it?

Lets just walk away from the EU. We can still trade with them. All these German Cars, yes they are good. And they want to sell them to us! Cos if we leave without a deal they will still want to sell to us. They have to to survive and all the others in the EU with the exception of Greece and Italy who the EU have virtually bankrupted.

Best exit is needed

I’m appalled that the Government is suspending Parliament in September.

With the Brexit deadline around the corner, it means MPs won’t have time to pass laws to stop a no-deal Brexit or scrutinise the Government at one of the most critical times in our country’s history. This is an outrage and undermines the very idea of democracy. With just a few weeks before Brexit, we need politicians in Parliament, doing their jobs to make sure we leave the European Union in the best possible way for the sake of future generations.

That’s why I’ve joined the campaign calling for Boris Johnson not to suspend Parliament to ram through an undemocratic Brexit, which will do nothing to provide closure and bring the country back together. This is the time for MPs to showcase bold and decisive leadership. I’d like to encourage everyone to sign the petition at

Is this democracy?

In 2013 the Swindon Adver printed a series of letters from correspondents regarding democracy in the UK. In 2016, 17.4million people in the UK voted to leave the EU. Since the referendum politicians from across the political spectrum most notably Tory politicians (amongst them South Swindon MP Robert Buckland) have continually said “we live in a democracy and have to honour the democratic will of those who voted to leave the EU.

In July of this year, with 92,153 votes, that was 000.1 of the electorate, Boris Johnson was elected as PM. On August the 29th PM Johnson decided that from September 10th Parliament would be suspended for five weeks therefore stopping any debate on Brexit. Imagine the uproar from Tory MPs if Jeremy Corbyn acted in this way and we can only imagine what the town’s two Conservative MPs would say in their Swindon Advertiser columns, what kind of democracy are we now living in, in the Uk ?
