If you have visited the Primark store in the town centre recently you may have noticed something different.

The stairs to the bottom floor have been closed off and the escalator downstairs has also been baricaded to stop shoppers.

Any fears of the store downsizing or closing have been calmed after the store revealed it is just refurbishing the third floor.

A spokeswoman for Primark said: "Our Swindon store is currently undergoing a refurbishment and is scheduled for completion before the end of this year.

Swindon Advertiser:

"The new design and layout will reflect Primark's latest contemporary shop fit, providing customers with an enhanced shopping experince."

The new floor, which used to house the men's and children's departments, is due to open before Christmas.

The current location for the old departments are on the top floor, leading to more cramped conditions than usual.

Primark has gone from strength to strength in recent years, opening its biggest store in Birmingham this year. It features three dining areas as well as a Disney-themed restaurant.
