POLICE and crime commissioner Angus Macpherson will take the part of an evil queen in a panto-themed catwalk.

Mr Macpherson, who has served as Wiltshire’s police commissioner since 2012, will take part in the fashion show alongside dignitaries like former Swindon mayor Junab Ali.

The show is being held to mark the launch of Swindon Women’s Aid’s new pop-up town centre shop. Supported by the Wyvern Theatre, New College students will be doing the grease-painted politicians’ make-up and also taking to the catwalk.

Baddie dame-to-be Mr Macpherson joked of his involvement: “If raising a smile brings attention to an important issue then I’m happy to be booed in the process.”

The shop, in The Parade, is a joint venture between Swindon Women’s Aid and the Swindon Freemasons. It will raise funds for the domestic abuse charity, with a private space at the back of the shop also acting as an emergency safe room for victims of violent family members.

The catwalk show is on Saturday, September 7, from 11am.
