A NEW support group for people with dementia is coming to Pinehurst.

Starting next week, a fortnightly dementia cafe will be held at Pinetrees Community Centre on Wednesdays between 2pm and 4pm.

There will be a range of gentle, interactive games for individuals with dementia, as well as music from the past and a magic table, which involves simple games being projected onto a table.

“It’s an absolutely amazing device,” said centre manager Michaela Johnston.

“It has all different kinds of games which people can get easily involved in and promotes social interaction.

“The cafe will be a place where individuals and their carers can come and meet other people in the same situation and get out of their house so people don’t feel so isolated,” Michaela added.

Run by the Central Swindon North Parish Council, transport to and from the centre is available on request, and early booking is advised.

“The hope is that we start rolling this out across the parish in other community centres. There is such a need for it, not just in this area but the whole of Swindon,” said Michaela.
