The Swindon Down’s Syndrome Group needs your help to win a share of £1,000,000.

The group is on the shortlist to win a slice of Persimmon Homes’ Building Futures pot, which supports people under 18 years old.

The independent charity is in with a chance of wining £100,000, £50,000 or £20,000 at a gala dinner in October.

The money will go to the organisations with the most online votes.

Kim West, chairwoman of the Swindon Down’s Syndrome Group said: “This really would be a life-changing amount of money for us if we were to win.

"It’s phenomenal to be in the position of being shortlisted, it isn’t something we were expecting.”

The Swindon Down’s Syndrome Group is a parent-led volunteer group dating back to 1984.

Currently run by 10 trustees, it supports more than 100 families in Swindon.

Kim added: “We really need people to get behind us and get voting so that we are in the strongest possible position to earn one of the top three cash awards on the night.

“We’re a completely voluntary organisation, and we don’t charge parents because we want all young people to be able to access our services.

“Every penny we raise goes straight back to our young people.”

The group plans to put the money towards speech and language therapy for its members, which currently costs them over £17,000 a year.

“Speech and language is something most of us take for granted, but for our young people it is a key skill they really need to be part of the community.”
