AN AMBITIOUS new project to transform Swindon into a British Silicon Valley has found its campaign leader.

The borough council’s business ambassador network Switch On To Swindon awarded the contract to deliver the TechSwindon campaign to TechSpark.

The campaign will see big business partners like Intel, Catalent and Zurich team up with innovative start-ups and fast-growing companies like Appsbroker to host a series of events which will lead up to a major summit in 2020.

The summit will showcase the best of Swindon’s cutting-edge tech sector and aims to attract hundreds of businesses from around the country – and the world.

Tomas Foreman is the lead marketing planning manager at Nationwide Building Society, which is one of many TechSwindon partners, and is the chair of the Switch On To Swindon steering group.

He said: “TechSpark was awarded the contract as they have proven experience in this field and impressive industry knowledge, so they are well placed to help grow the volume of technologists in Swindon and Wiltshire to support business growth.”

Headed by Ben Shorrock, TechSpark has been making waves in the digital and tech sector in Bristol and Bath for the past seven years and the SOTS steering group felt that this experience would be a huge benefit to the project.

Mr Shorrock added: “TechSwindon’s mission is to strengthen the growing tech ecosystem, shine a light on the opportunities the region presents to tech-focused companies and promote Swindon as a place for innovation with a highly skilled workforce.

“As well as attracting top talent to Swindon, we will work to support the existing workforce and companies, which are pivotal to that growth”

“At next year’s tech summit, delegates will experience Swindon’s tech scene, including emerging platforms and technologies which are impacting on real-world problems, with a host of global speakers.”

Mr Foreman added: “The goal is to engage with our tech community and showcase their talent to demonstrate that Swindon is an exceptional tech destination with an extremely exciting future.”
