AN INTERNATIONALLY renowned organist will give a recital this evening - Thursday, September 12 - at Holy Rood Church in Swindon's Groundwell Road.
The 7pm performance by Paul Hale, who has played across Europe and America and received an award from the Archbishop of Canterbury for his work, marks the debut of Holy Rood's newly-refurbished instrument.
Originally built in 1930, the organ was recently rebuilt and expanded by Midlands-based specialist Anthony Hall, who grew up in the Swindon area.
He has been a regular organist at Holy Rood for many years and regards it as his home church.
The expansion was needed because the congregation is steadily growing.
This evening's recital by Paul Hale will include pieces by Bach, Liszt, Franck and Whitlock.
There will be no admission charge, but those who attend are invited to make donations and £5 is suggested.
