Swindon legend Glenn Hoddle is set to return to the town he took to the Premier League next year.

Arriving in January, Hoddle will be taking part in a ‘one night with…’ event at the Wyvern Theatre.

A spokesman for the event said: “Glenn will be talking about his career in football and management, he was a former Swindon player and manager so no will talk about this and his career at other clubs.

“He’ll also talk about England their prospect in international football as well as his recovery from a heart attack.”

Glenn Hoddle suffered a heart attack after coming off air for BT Sport on his 61st birthday.

He became a Swindon icon after taking over the managerial reigns from Ossie Ardiles in 1991, acting as a play-manager.

Overseeing 120 games in all competitions, making 73 playing appearances and scoring 6 goals, Hoddle took Swindon Town to the Premier League thanks to a 4-3 play-off final win over Leicester in 1993.

However, just days after the win at Wembley, Hoddle resigned as Town boss and took over at Chelsea, leaving Swindon before the start of their first ever top flight campaign.

Ultimately, Swindon never recovered from Hoddle’s departure and they slumped to bottom of the league conceding a record 100 goals and only managing 5 wins over the season.

Some success was had in that season, with Town managing to beat Tottenham 2-1 at the County Ground and Liverpool to a 2-2 draw at Anfield.

Despite originally receiving a barrage of hate, Hoddle has since been recognised as one of Swindon’s best players and managers, with a lot of fans remembering his time at the club fondly and he has solidified himself as one of the clubs legends.

The event is currently offering tickets at £34 or they offer a meet and greet option for £74. To book tickets visit swindontheatres.co.uk/online/tickets-glenn-hoddle-swindon-2020
