Six Grand Designs-style self-build houses could be constructed on farmland in Swindon.
Developer Marc McDermott has applied to Swindon Borough Council for permission for three houses each to be built on two neighbouring plots of land in Blunsdon.
The two sites are either side of one house, Fairview, and a campervan conversion business in Kingsdown Lane, running east from Turnpike Lane, south of Broad Blunsdon.
Mr McDermott’s application is for permission in principle only, without any details on how the houses might look, or be constructed, or what access from the road would be.
It says: “The sites are two separate parcels of lands located either side of a single dwelling. They are undeveloped agricultural land with no notable features.”
It points out that the land is not farmed at the moment and there is not other planning permission for any use and “it has not been used for anything in the past that could compromise it being developed for housing.”
While Blunsdon Parish Council is preparing a neighbourhood plan which does not allocate the sites for housing, the application says: “The plan carries little weight in decision-making because it is not yet adopted.”
